Probing the Nature of the Massive Black Hole Binary Candidate Sdss J1536+0441

چکیده
We present an imaging study of the black hole binary candidate SDSS J1536+0441 (z ≈ 0.3893), based on deep, high resolution VzK images collected at the ESO/VLT. The images clearly show an asymmetric elongation, indicating the presence of a companion source at ∼ 1 (≈ 5 kpc projected distance) East from the quasar. The host galaxy of the quasar is marginally resolved. We find that the companion source is a luminous galaxy, the light profile of which suggests the presence of an unresolved, faint nucleus (either an obscured AGN or a compact stellar bulge). The study of the environment around the quasar indicates the occurrence of a significant over-density of galaxies with a redshift compatible with z ≈ 0.4. This suggests that it resides in a moderately rich cluster of galaxies. Subject headings: quasars: individual (SDSS J153636.22+044127.0)

Discovery of Radio Emission from the Quasar Sdss J1536+0441, a Candidate Binary Black-hole System
The radio-quiet quasar SDSS J1536+0441 shows two broad-line emission systems that Boroson & Lauer interpret as a candidate binary black-hole system with a separation of 0.1 pc (0.02 mas). From new VLA imaging at 8.5 GHz, two faint sources, separated by 0.97 (5.1 kpc), have been discovered within the quasar’s optical localization region. Each radio source is unresolved, with a diameter of less t...

The quasar SDSS J153636.22+044127.0, exhibiting peculiar broad emission-line profiles with multiple components, was proposed as a candidate sub-parsec binary supermassive black hole system. More recently, imaging revealed two spatially distinct sources, leading some to suggest the system to be a quasar pair separated by ∼5 kpc. We present Palomar and Keck optical spectra of this system from whi...
متن کاملThe Quasar Sdss J105041.35+345631.3: Black Hole Recoil or Extreme Double-peaked Emitter?
The quasar SDSS J105041.35+345631.3 (z = 0.272) has broad emission lines blueshifted by 3500 km s relative to the narrow lines and the host galaxy. Such an object may be a candidate for a recoiling supermassive black hole, a binary black hole, a superposition of two objects, or an unusual geometry for the broad emission-line region (BLR). The absence of narrow lines at the broad line redshift a...
متن کاملProbing the nature of compact dark object at the Galactic Center by gravitational lensing
The long–standing issues of determination of the mass distribution and nature of the center of our Galaxy could be probed by a lensing experiment capable of testing the spatial and velocity distributions of stars nearby and beyond it. We propose a lensing toy–model which could be a further evidence that a massive consensation (e.g. a neutrino condensation) is a good candidate to explain the dat...
متن کاملThe Quasar Sdss J153636.22+044127.0: a Double-peaked Emitter in a Candidate Binary Black-hole System
Double-peaked emission lines are believed to be originated from accretion disks around supermassive black holes (SMBHs), and about 3% of z < 0.33 AGNs are found to be double-peaked emitters. The quasar SDSS J153636.22+044127.0 has recently been identified with peculiar broad-line emission systems exhibiting multiple redshifts. We decompose the Hα and Hβ profiles into a circular Keplerian disk l...
